The Passamaquoddy Tribe’s Title VI Elderly Nutrition Service provides an opportunity for Tribal Elders (Age 55+) to access healthy meals, occasional nutrition screenings and education as well as provide a safe social outlet for elders to meet with their friends, family, and to learn and remain engaged in the community.

Elderly Nutrition Program (Meal Site)
The purpose of the Passamaquoddy Elder Nutrition Program (Meal Site) is to provide nutrition services as described in the Older Americans Act (OAA) of 1965, as amended, and to assist older individuals in Indian Township to live independently, by promoting better health through improved nutrition, and reduced isolation through programs coordinated with nutrition-related supportive services.
Goals and Objectives.
(a) Goals of the Elderly Nutrition Program are to maintain and/or improve the physical, psychological, and social well-being of older individuals in Indian Township, by providing or securing appropriate nutrition services.
(b) Program objectives of the Elderly Nutrition Program are to:
- Promote socialization of older individuals.
- Serve meals that provide one-third (1/3) of the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) and are safe and of good quality.
- Promote and maintain high food safety and sanitation standards.
- Promote good health behaviors through nutrition education and nutrition screening of participants.
- Promote or maintain coordination with other nutrition-related supportive services for older individuals.
- (a) the Passamaquoddy Health Center shall be responsible for the administration of the Elderly Nutrition Program and shall have duties that include:
- Monitoring and evaluating nutrition services.
- Disseminating information to State/Federal programs about nutrition advancements and developments.
- Promoting coordination between nutrition services and community-based organizations serving older individuals.
(b) PHC shall have a designated person(s) who shall oversee the following:
- Have expertise in nutrition and dietary services and planning.
- Be a registered dietitian.
Home Delivered Meals:
If you have a disability that limits your ability to come to the meal site, you may be eligible for meal delivery. Home meal delivery is assessed by the PHC Director and medical provider(s) on a quarterly basis.
Criteria to assess the need for home-delivered nutrition services of each eligible participant is as determined by the following.
- An initial determination of eligibility may be accomplished by telephone.
- A written assessment shall be done in the home within two (2) weeks of initial determination.
- An older individual eligible for receiving home-delivered meals shall be assessed for need of additional nutrition-related supportive services, and referred as necessary.
- Reassessment of need shall be determined quarterly. Such reassessment shall be done in the home of the participant at least every other quarter.
“Disability” means a condition attributable to mental or physical impairment, or a combination of mental and physical impairments, that results in substantial functional limitations in one (1) or more of the following areas:
- Self-care.
- Receptive and expressive language.
- Learning.
- Mobility.
- Self-direction.
- Capacity for independent living.
- Economic self-sufficiency.
- Cognitive functioning.
- Emotional adjustment.
Takeout Meals:
Effective immediately, the Passamaquoddy Elderly Nutrition Program will not permit takeout meals. To align with requirements of the OAA, eat in and home meal delivery will be the only options available.
